Medicare typically covers 4-6 bras annually or as many indicated/prescribed by your MD.

In addition, Medicare typically covers 1 SILICONE breast form per affected side every 2 years or 1 FOAM form per affected side every 6 months.

Your goal when being fitted for a breast form is to create a natural silhouette so that you feel comfortable and confident. Most insurance companies will cover costs for the breast form. Patients should get a prescription from their doctor stating their diagnosis and the need for the breast form and bras.

Breast forms can be made from several different types of materials, such as silicone, foam, or fiberfill to create something that has a similar weight and feel to a natural breast.

Some breast forms adhere directly to the chest area, while others fit into a special bra pocket that helps hold the breast form in place.

To be certain you get the best breast form fit for your needs, it is recommended to consult with a certified mastectomy fitter in your area.  It is suggested to wait until 4-6 weeks after your surgery to be fitted for a breast form.
